Reporting Responsibilities

Generally, transactions must be reported by both sides of the trade. A trade between two dealers, for example, will be reported by both parties, with each side identified as principals to the transaction. If a dealer executes a trade to a customer, the dealer is responsible for reporting the customer trade to the RTRS and must identify it as either an agency or a principal transaction. Recall that a customer is anyone that is not a dealer, including a broker.
