Shareholders’ Equity

Shareholders’ equity, or stockholders’ equity, represents the company’s net worth: the amount of money that would be left over if the company liquidated all its assets and paid off all its liabilities. It is sometimes referred to as share capital, book value, net worth, or stockholders’ equity. Shareholders’ equity may be a negative number, which is generally not a good sign.
