2.1.2.1. Types of Treasury Securities

Treasury securities are issued with many different maturities and come in three general types.

Treasury bills. Treasury bills are issued at a discount and have a maturity of one year or less. They are sold at auction in $100 increments, and common maturities are 1 month (4 weeks), 2 months (13 weeks), 6 months (26 weeks), and a year. Auctions are held weekly for all Treasury bills except for 52-week T-bills, which are auctioned monthly.
