Methods of Refunding

An advance refunding may be financed using several methods.

A full cash refunding, also called a gross refunding, relies solely on the cash proceeds from the refunding bonds, without reinvesting them, to pay the debt service on the refunded bonds.

With net cash refunding, proceeds from the refunding bonds are supplemented by other sources of financing, such as the existing reserve funds for the refunded bonds, monthly deposits from its other debt service, and the issuer’s cash on hand.
