4.2.3. Nominal Bids

A nominal quote is one that offers an approximate price around which a dealer indicates its potential willingness to purchase securities. It is provided for informational purposes only, offering the dealer’s expectation of the market value of an issue without being an actual bid or offer. A nominal bid is also called an “indication.”
