10.12.4 Advance Directives
IARs should discuss with their clients the usefulness of advance directives, which are legal documents that spell out how the client wishes the IA to act on their behalf if the client is unable to make decisions because of a hospitalization, cognitive decline, or similar situation. A client who is impaired to the point of being unable to manage their own affairs is said to have diminished capacity. Unfortunately, this is a difficult topic for some clients.
