4.5.2.  Regulation AB

In 2004 the SEC adopted Regulation AB. This regulation describes the registration, disclosure, and reporting requirements for asset-backed securities. Regulation AB does not apply to mortgage-backed securities that are issued or guaranteed by government-sponsored entities, such as Ginny Mae, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac. Private placements are also not covered under Regulation AB.
