3.7.3.5.  Closing the Contract

A short sale can last as long as the borrower and lender both wish to keep the margin account open. Lenders, which are usually brokerage firms, are within their rights, however, to request delivery of their shares at any time. If the lender calls in his shares, the short sale investor must act immediately to purchase and return the shares, irrespective of any gains or losses she may incur.
