Municipal securities are debt obligations issued by states or local governments, or their agencies and authorities. Municipal securities usually take the form of bonds or shorter-term notes. Examples of issuers may be cities, towns, villages, counties, public libraries, port authorities, boards of education, and state highway patrols.
