Retirement accounts come in many shapes and sizes and may be set up by an individual or an employer. Individual retirement accounts are opened by individuals, who may contribute an amount of money up to some maximum annual amount. They may be funded with pre-tax dollars (traditional IRAs and 401(k) plans) or after-tax dollars (Roth IRA)
