3.3.1.  Applying for a CUSIP Number

All underwriters must apply for a CUSIP number by the time that pricing is finalized. A CUSIP number is the identification number of the new security that helps in the clearing and settlement process. A CUSIP number generally consists of nine characters that uniquely identify a company or issuer and the type of security. They are assigned to all registered U.S. stocks, U.S. corporate bonds, government securities, and municipal bonds.
