Definition of the term Marketable Security...

a security that is liquid, meaning that it can readily be sold. A marketable security might qualify as a cash equivalent if its liquidity is very high and its market value is predictable. An example of a marketable security that is not a cash equivalent is common stock, which fluctuates in value.
