Series 79: Split-offs

Taken from our FINRA Investment Banking Exam

Definition of the term Split-offs...

a fairly uncommon transaction type in which a subsidiary of a parent company becomes an independent corporation. Unlike in a spin-off, however, shares of the subsidiary's stock are distributed to those shareholders who are willing to exchange their shares in the parent company for shares in the newly independent subsidiary.
