Definition of the term Share Buyback...

an alternative to an issuer tender offer in which an issuer simply buys its own shares on the open market. Share buybacks are sometimes conducted instead of paying dividends. A share buyback can avoid being characterized as price manipulation if it is conducted within the limitations of Rule 10b-18.
